Shayne Liller, graduating senior from Tucker County High School, was the recipient of a Military Scholarship totaling $104,100,  awarded to him  at this past Thursday evening during the TCH Awards Ceremony.

According to Liller’s recruiter,  Corporal Joshua Hoban, “Only one percent of the population takes the oath to serve in the armed forces.”   Liller was the only one of his senior class that chose to join the military.

Liller will be serving in the Army National Guards, based out of Salem, WV.   He will leave for Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, for his basics on July 25.  His duties will be that of the military police force.  In addition to the college scholarship, he will also receive a $25,000 as a sign on bonus, as well as a monthly check for his services.
He is the son of Amy and Johnny Wagner and Rick Liller of Parsons.  Grandparents include Jeannie and Garry Bonner of Parsons, Patty Wagner of Hambleton, Bruce and Bamby Liller of Morgantown and Mary Lou Moats of Aurora.
According to Liller, he has not completely decided which college he will be attending, but he is strongly looking at Salem University.  He hopes to study criminal justice and continue to pursue his baseball activities.  He has had an exemplarily high school athletic career,  becoming a four year varsity letterman.  He readily credits Denny Evans, Scottie Fox and Donnie McWilliams for serving as his role models and helping him to develop his abilities.
Liller said, “Although he was really excited about the scholarship, it wasn’t  about the money.  I would have done this anyway.  I just want to serve my country.”
