With the very close count of only two votes between them in the primary election, it was almost a certainty that a recount would be held between incumbent, Diane Hinkle and Freddie Davis for the Tucker Commissioner’s race .
This is exactly what happened this past week. On the board that convened on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, was County Clerk, Sherry Simmons, serving in the capacity as ballot reader, observer and sorter; Commissioners Lowell More and Patrick Darlington serving as election observers; Jane Greenhalag, serving as a ballot reader and Gary Greenhalgh, serving as a ballot sorter. Roger Cale and Shawn Marker made up the re-count team. Also on hand was Robin McClintock, Democratic Party Chairman for Tucker County.
According to Sherry Simmons, “The recount went precinct by precinct. Ballots were separated to recount only the democratic ballots. Jane Greenhalgh and myself inspected and read the ballots individually while Roger Cale and Shawn Marker tallied the votes under the supervision of Lowell Moore and Patrick Darlington. The recount began at 9 a.m. and concluded at 1 p.m. resulting in no change in the Tucker County Commissioner’s race. After the recount, the final tally stood as: Diane Hinkle 477 votes, Freddie Davis 475 votes, and Alan Kidwell 325 votes.”
Sherry reminded everyone, “You may be registered to vote, but that is not counted on Election Day. It is very important to vote; for in Tucker County, every vote counts.”
