Thomas, WV – Cortland Acres played host to the 65th Mountaineer Mascot, Trevor Kiess, recently. A native of Tucker County, Kiess spent his time at Cortland greeting residents throughout the 94-bed facility. The visit was the unofficial kickoff to the annual Thomas Mountaineer Days.
“The excitement for the Mountaineer visit has been building all week,” explains Cortland Administrator Beth Clevenger. “Fun-filled events are a regular occurrence at our facility, but a visit by the Mountaineer is definitely something special.”
Having spent his early years in Tucker County, Kiess knew many of the residents and was able to reminisce about their families. It is Kiess’ goal to serve the state and university in a way that makes all Mountaineers proud across the country. His visit to Cortland Acres was just another example of how Kiess hopes to inspire everyone in West Virginia to strive for their dreams.
The Mountaineer spent time at Cortland and was able to visit residents in every wing of the facility. From pictures and autographs with residents, to the forty push-ups Kiess did to honor Cortland’s 40th anniversary, the time with the WVU Mountaineer is one that will last in the memories of residents, their families and Cortland staff for a long time…Let’s Go…Mountaineers!
