REBECCA LYNN “BECKIE” JOLLY SMITH, age 55 years, a resident of the Location Road Community, St. George, Parsons, WV, departed this life Tuesday morning, July 3, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice. Beckie fought a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Sunday, September 9, 1962 at Canton, OH, a daughter of the late David Theodore “Teddy” Jolly and Gwen Lynn Evans Roy, who survives at Parsons. On May 2, 1981 at Parsons, WV, she was married to Roger Charles “Sam” Smith, Jr., who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Aaron Wayne Smith and wife Erin of Pifer Mt, and Andrew Wade Smith and wife Meredith of Red Creek; one daughter, Tana Rachelle Smith of Parsons; one special niece, Hope Elizabeth Roy of Parsons; two brothers, Theodore Cover “David” Jolly and wife Jessica and Elmer Benjamin “Ben” Roy, all of Parsons; one sister, Brenda Sue Lipscomb and husband Jerry of Morgantown; three grandchildren, Braxton Wayne Smith, Gunner Jett Smith and Beau Amos Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Tucker County High School with the class of 1981. She was previously employed at the Parsons Shoe Plant, Cortland Acres, Bausch & Lomb, Jim Propst’s Store and Sheetz. In her younger years, she was a member of the Parsons Church of the Nazarene. She was a volunteer for the Tucker Co. EMS. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. She created many dresses for pageants, and she was so enthusiastic about her daughter Tana, being in those pageants. She enjoyed making cakes, sewing, and she was very artistic. Some of the things she was proud of were sewing the uniforms for the TCHS Band and TCHS Cheerleader, making sachets for pageants, and just sewing for family and friends. Beckie was so proud of all her children and especially her grandchildren and loved “Her Sam” so much. Beckie will be missed by all she touched. Beckie was known by her family for always having the last word.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. Rev. Pat Cassidy officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.
