Energy Express is a summer program that encourages young students in reading, writing, and art. This year the program was excited to have six mentors, Kenzie Kyle, Melanie Adams, Leah Underwood, Elizabeth Nicholas, Justin Fike, and Jordan Moss.

Site coordinator for was Valerie Eye, and community coordinator Mikayla Long. The program hosted 48 children K-6 from Tucker County Schools. The children were offered two family style meals, along with games, art projects, drama activities, shared reading, and writing exercises.

These activities will benefit the children in the upcoming school year. Energy Express requires students and staff to participate in a community service project each year. This year’s student’s community service project was making pictures, cards, painting rocks, and creating a banner for the Cortland Acres residents.

The Energy Express staff has chosen to build a Lend a Library, which will be placed at Mill Race Park. The staff at Energy Express said many volunteered their time, donated,  were volunteer readers, guest readers, and foster grandmas and helped to make this summer a success.
