Fifty-one personnel from five different fire departments battled a forest fire in the Limestone area last week. Units from Thomas, Davis, Mount Grove and Aurora assisted the Parsons Volunteer Fire Department at the scene. Canaan Valley and Bayard Fire Departments were on standby to assist. Leading Creek Fire Department was on standby in the Parsons station.
Th fire, which burned approximately 10 acres, was located on private land two miles out Limestone Road. The St. George Park was used as the staging area.
Parsons Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, Kevin White said, “The cause of the fire is unknown although it is suspected to have been caused by a chain saw or 4-wheeler.” White said “The Division of Forestry came out to see if we needed anything and several local residents helped with ATVs and UTVs. They were invaluable in helping to haul our equipment as there was no access roads to the fire, only logging roads.”
Debbie White, President of the Ladies Auxiliary said, “The women assisted by providing sandwiches, drinks, cookies and coffee.”
K. White said, “We had a great joint effort. EMS assisted, 911 did a great job of keeping us informed, the ladies fed and hydrated everyone. It was a huge team effort to make a bad situation end with a good out come.”
