Liller signs with Potomac State

Shayne Liller graduated from Tucker County High School with the Class of 2018, he joined the National Guard and received an offer to sign a letter-of-intent to play baseball for Potomac State College. “I’ve always wanted to accomplish two goals —playing baseball after high school and serving my country.  Now, thanks to many people who helped me, these goals are becoming a reality”, Liller said.

Pictured signing with Potomac State College earlier in July are his step-father and youth baseball coach, John Wagner; mother, Amy Bonner Wagner; Thomas Evans, an assistant coach at Tucker County High School and the son of the late Denzil Evans, a TCHS coach; Post 29 American Legion manager Chris George; and father and youth baseball coach Rick Liller.

Liller credits his love for baseball, competitive spirit, and support to his mother and step-father, Amy and John Wagner; his father, Rick Liller; all his coaches from little league through high school, especially the late Denzil Evans; and most recently Chris George, the Elkins Post 29 American Legion baseball manager, a team Liller joined this summer.

George watched Liller pitch a great high school game that resulted in a win over a well-respected high school opponent.  When George had the opportunity to bring Liller to the attention of the Potomac State coaches, he took it.  George describes Liller as willing to work hard at his sport and one who the American Legion was pleased to promote for the opportunity to play college baseball.
Liller reports for National Guard basic training the end of July and will enroll at Potomac State in January and redshirt his freshman season. Liller will pursue a Criminal Justice degree at Potomac State.
He is the grandson of Garry and Jeanne Bonner, Parsons;  Bruce and Bambi Liller, Morgantown; and step-grandson of Patty Wagner, Hambleton.
