The West Virginia University Organic Research Farm will be hosting their 18th Annual Field Day on August 25, from 5-7 p.m. The event will be held as a Twilight Program and differs from past Organic Farm Field Days by focusing on student participation and an informal program of tours, demonstrations and displays.
New this year will be a Biorational Plant Disease Management section, a progress report on research into industrial hemp, and workshops on high tunnel production, vegetable pest management, and a pasture walk describing grazing and pasture management practices.
“The needs of organic growers are constantly evolving and our research helps address the new opportunities and emerging problems they face,” said Jim Kotcon, Associate Professor of Plant Pathology. “The Twilight Program is geared to introduce newcomers to the science and practice of organic agriculture, and to offer long-time practitioners a chance to see new practices.”
Talks and lectures will be geared towards WVU students, gardeners and community folk, and producers or farmers interested in sustainable production practices.
“We hope that this new twist on our WVU Organic Farm Field Day will entice you to visit and discover the WVU Organic Farm including the student organizations that support the Farm” said Kotcon. “The Program will feature activities by a diverse cross-section of faculty and students. We are looking forward to seeing you!”
