MILL CREEK – Tucker County traveled to Tygarts Valley last Friday August 31st. The Mt. Lions outscored the Bulldogs 21-8 in the second half to pick up the road victory by the final score of 35-14.
Tucker County went right to work on offense as they drove the ball down the field and scored on their first drive as Cole Rapp scored on a 5 yard run. The extra point kick was good by Ben Callaway to make the score 7-0 Tucker County with 9:05 left in the first quarter. The home standing Bulldogs then could not sustain a drive and the Mt. Lions got the ball back and went to work again. Tucker County put together a 9 play 61 yard drive that was capped on a 10 yard touchdown run by Liam Hood with 3:56 left in the first quarter. The PAT kick was good again by Callaway to push the Mt. Lions lead to 14-0.
Tygarts Valley got on the scoreboard after a Tucker County fumble with a 4 play drive that was finished off on a 6 yard pass play. The PAT kick was no good to make the score 14-6 Tucker County with 10:09 left in the second quarter. Neither team got on the scoreboard the rest of the first half and the Mt. Lions led at the half 14-6.
The Bulldogs got the ball to start the third quarter, but a fumble by Tygarts Valley with 10:22 left in the third gave Tucker County the ball. The Mt. Lions then 61 yards to paydirt as Hood connected on a 14 yard touchdown pass to Jeffrey Snyder with 6:37 left in the third. Callaway connected again with the PAT kick to push the Mt. Lions lead to 21-6. Tucker County added another score in the third on a 2 yard touchdown run by Hood with 4:14 left in the third quarter. The PAT kick was good again to make the score 28-6 Tucker County.
In the fourth quarter the Mt. Lions added a score on 6 yard touchdown pass from Hood to Ben Callaway and the PAT kick was good to make the Tucker County lead 35-6 with 3:07 left in the game. Tygarts Valley would add a score with 3 seconds left in the game against the Tucker County reserve defense on an 11 yard run. The 2 point conversion was good to end the scoring for the night and make the final score 35-14 Tucker County. Tucker County moved their overall record against Tygarts Valley to 17-2.
Liam Hood led Tucker County on 9 of 12 passing for 185 yards. Cole Rapp led the Mt. Lions in receiving with 4 receptions for 113 yards and Rapp also added 14 carries for 78 yards rushing. Hunter Collar also had 13 carries for 65 yards rushing for Tucker County while Ben Callaway and Jeffrey Snyder each had 36 yards receiving on the evening. Tygarts Valley was led by Daniel White with 19 carries for 153 yards rushing. Tucker County outgained the Bulldogs 397 to 221 in total yards.
