The Highlands Trail Foundation held its third race, but it’s first 1/2 Marathon down the Blackwater Canyon Trail last Saturday.

85 runners rode buses from Parsons to Thomas to begin the race down the Allegheny Highlands Rail Trail. There were 2 aid stations located at Douglas Falls and Lime Rock, providing refreshments and encouragement as runners arrived. Lucas Warner and Jessica Bruzek had the best overall times for male and female participants with times under 1 hr 30 min. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful views down the canyon and look forward to running the same course next year.

The race had numerous sponsors with major contributors being Kingsford Charcoal and St. George Medical Clinic. Main organizers and directors for the 1/2 marathon were Mandy Sullivan and Sarah Forbes with help from the rest of the Highlands Board of directors.
