Celebrating 30 years of the Leaf Peepers Festival! What started out by local restaurateurs to show off their food and the local fall foliage, has turned into a jammed packed weekend full of Fall Celebrations.
The 30th Annual Leaf Peeper’s Festival is held the last full weekend in September and this year’s dates are for September 28-30, 2018. “If leaf peeping were a religion, Tucker County would be its cathedral,” said Jessica Waldo, Executive Director for the Tucker County CVB. “Once you’ve breathed in the mountain air and witnessed the explosion of fall colors – you’ll be a fan and visitor for life.”
The Tucker County Alpine Festival Association plans this annual event that is held throughout Davis, Thomas and Canaan Valley WV. Coining a phrase that is used to describe visitors during the fall foliage season, the Leaf Peepers Festival is a family oriented celebration of the early arrival of the blazing fall colors. Due to the high elevation, the fall colors arrive early in this area and usually peak in late September or early October.
“The festival uses a unique format to ensure a full calendar of events for that weekend”, said Angie Shockley President of the Alpine Festival. Some of the events include the Fireman’s Parade, the Talent Show, the “Run For It” 5K/2K run/walk, the West Virginia Appalachian Craft Show, the Leaf Peeper’s car show, the famous Duck Race, the WV Heritage Village and Oktoberfest. “The Tucker County Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring and producing Oktoberfest event. Featuring West Virginia crafted beers and local Meade, along with live music and vendors of all shape and size. There will be plenty of good food and music for all of the Leaf Peepers this year”, said Andy Snyder, Chamber President.
