WVHighlands Artisans Group has partnered with Tucker Community Foundation by initiating an endowed fund to provide a sustainable source of funding for the Tucker County STArt project, a cooperative project linking the local arts community and the school system. Once the WV Highlands STArt Fund is fully established it will provide annual grants to assist and perpetuate the vision of the project.
WVHighlands Artisans Group initiated the School-Town Art Project in 2009 as an outreach program acknowledging that viable communities promote both education and economic well-being and that the arts contribute measurable benefits to both. STArt has a threefold purpose to support art instruction through the county schools; give visibility to the results; and encourage students to take active roles in the arts community. One of the cornerstones of the STArt project, and one that always draws a large crowd, is the very successful and engaging exhibition of artwork from each of the three Tucker County schools that is held each May.
The scope of the STArt Project has been broadened to involve more students; encompass all the arts in its programs; cultivate community support and participation; increase interaction with the business community and promote Tucker County as a viable arts destination for tourists.
