PARSONS – The Mt. Lions ranked #3 in Class “A” this past week hosted Philip-Barbour for homecoming last Friday September 14th. Tucker County built a lead in the first quarter and held the Colts scoreless for the game to get the 10-0 home win.
Philip-Barbour received the opening kick from Tucker County. The visiting Colts could not sustain the drive and the Mt. Lions offense got the ball back. Tucker County could not sustain a drive on offense and the Philip-Barbour defense got the ball back for the Colts. Late in the first quarter Philip-Barbour fumbled the ball on a high snap to the quarterback and Tucker County’s Raine McCauley recovered the ball at the Colts 1 yard line. On the very next play Tucker County scored on a Cole Rapp 1 yard touchdown run. Ben Callaway made the extra point kick to make the score 7-0 Tucker County with 1:38 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter Philip-Barbour failed to convert on a third down play at the Mt. Lions 43 and lined up to punt the ball back to Tucker County. The Colts then got a big play on a fake punt that took the ball down to the Tucker County 23. The Mt. Lions defense then stepped up and stopped the Colts to give the ball back to the home team at their own 22 yard line. Tucker County then got some big plays from Liam Hood and Jeffrey Snyder as they connected for 2 key pass plays. The last pass and catch came on a third down and 13 that covered 29 yards. The Mt. Lions drive went to the Colts 5 yard line and on fourth down Tucker County’s Ben Callaway connected on a 22 yard field goal. The field goal pushed the Mt. Lions lead to 10-0 with 6:23 left in the second quarter. Neither team could sustain a drive the rest of the second quarter and Tucker County led at halftime by the score of 10-0.
The third and fourth quarter seen both teams move the ball, but the drives could not be sustained. Tucker County and Philip-Barbour flexed their defensive muscles and the Mt. Lions held the Colts scoreless for the entire game to get the 10-0 homecoming victory.
Liam Hood led Tucker County with 8 of 19 passing for 134 yards and Jeffrey Snyder collected 4 receptions for 87 yards receiving. Cole Rapp had 16 carried for 60 yards rushing for Tucker County and Hunter Collar added 13 carries for 53 yards on the ground. Cole Rapp also led the Mt. Lions on defense as he collected 17 tackles and Bode Shockley added 14 tackles. Philip-Barbour outgained Tucker County slightly in total offense 250-245.
