There is a new face be seen behind the wheel boasting Tucker County Sheriff as of October 1. Justin Sigley, born and raised in Tucker County, has relocated from his previous position with the Elkins City Police as the new Chief Deputy. This position became available when former Chief Deputy Donelson left after serving the county approximately six years to attend the WV State Police Academy to join the State Troopers.
The Honorable Judge Lynn A. Nelson recently sworn in Justin Sigley ad the newest Tucker County Deputy Sheriff.
Sigley began his Law Enforcement career when he was hired as a patrolman with Elkins City Police in July of 2011. He then enlisted with the State Police Academy where he graduated from in November 2011. Shortly thereafter he was asked to be a K9 officer and he began his training with a new partner named Armor in the fall of 2013. Armor was on the force for five years and has recently retired. Sigley increased in rank over the past seven years to Sergeant and third in command within his unit.
Tucker County Sheriff Brian Wilfong shared his enthusiasm to welcome Sigley into his unit. “I look for him to be a great asset to the Sheriff’s office”, Wilfong expressed. “I’ve known him since he started at Elkins. He was a very good officer there, he’s a very upstanding person”, he added. Wilfong expressed Sigley is well qualified for the position with being through the academy and years of service. He will be extremely helpful in offering advice with handling K9’s with the county recently getting a dog. Deputy Zirk will be the primary handler, however Sigley’s experience will be invaluable to the new K9 team.
“I have always wanted a job where I could help people” said Sigley. “My father- in- law retired WV State Police Sergeant Robert Stump, and the officers he worked with had a big influence in helping me realize what I wanted to do with my career”, he added. Sigley chose to relocate to be closer home and to serve and protect the people of his home county. Sigley is also a very active volunteer within Tucker County, and being closer home will allow him to continue working with the different sports programs and 4-H in the county.
