Update on Tucker County Landfill

David Grimes by David Grimes

In a recent conservation with Steven Moore, Executive Director of the Tucker County Landfill, concerning the landfill accepting chicken feathers, Moore said, ” My problem with the September 16, 2018 article “Landfill receives chicken feathers without permit modification” is that it leaves the impression that we have been operating illegally.  In fact, we have a permit which includes animal carcasses.  We accept animal carcasses including chickens on a regular basis.

Our inspector determined that since the feathers were causing odor complaints we should get a permit modification that spells out how the feathers would be handled once on site.  I like and trust our inspector so I did not argue the point, but I do not feel that a permit modification is necessary since there are regulations that require special handling of animal carcasses already, which we follow.”

Moore stated, “I feel that Matt (The Parsons Advocate reporter) did a professional job on this issue and stated the facts as presented to him.  When he questioned me for his article the permit modification was not yet presented to me so I did not know to explain the full details to him.”
