Ellen Ruth Ponikvar DiBacco

Ellen Ruth Ponikvar DiBacco, 97, passed away Saturday November 3, 2018 at her home.


Born September 19, 1921 in Thomas, WV, she was the daughter of the late James and Christina Popish Ponikvar.

Ellen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and she enjoyed playing bingo and crocheting.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary E. Zaporoni of Charleston, WV; four grandchildren; Angela Mullins and husband, Tom, of Charleston, WV, Julie Dallas and husband Bob, of Frederick, MD, Jamie Edens and husband, J.P., of Martinsburg, WV, and Jody DiBacco of Martinsburg, WV; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Vincent Ponikvar and wife Mary Ann, of Thomas, WV, Richard “Dick” Ponikvar of McDonald, OH; Harry Ponikvar of Youngstown, OH; and Edward Ponikvar and wife, Mary Ann of Barberton, OH; and four sisters, Annabelle Hauk and husband, John, of Frederick, MD; Mary Jane Davidson of Elkins, WV; Beverly “Bonnie” Sadowski of Evans City, PA, and Martha Snodgrass and husband Jim, of Downingtown, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Abe L. DiBacco; a son, James V. DiBacco, two brothers, and three sisters.

Family will receive friends on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, at Thomas, WV where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated by her nephew the Reverend John V. Dibacco. Interment prayers will be said at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Thomas, WV.
