HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team opened the season at home against Southern Garrett, MD on Friday December 7th. The Mt. Lions could not keep pace with the visiting Rams as Southern took a victory back to Oakland by the final score of 75-57.
Tucker County hung tough in the first quarter as both teams traded baskets early, but the Rams surged ahead late in the first quarter to lead 26-10 after one quarter of play. Southern continued their dominance in the second quarter as they outscored the Mt. Lions 18-8 to make the halftime score 44-18 Southern.
In the third quarter the Rams extended their lead as they outpaced Tucker County 19-17 to push the score to 63-35 Southern at the end of the third quarter. Tucker County outscored the Rams in the fourth 22-12, but the Mt. Lions still took the loss by the final score of 75-57.
Corrick Ambrose led Tucker County with 18 points, 7 assists and Jeffrey Snyder added 16 points for the Mt. Lions in the loss. Wyatt Betler also contributed 9 points and 8 rebounds for Tucker County.
Tucker County will travel to Glenville State College tonight December 12th for a first round game in the IOGA Classic against Bridgeport at 4pm. The winner will play in the Championship game on Saturday December 15th at 5pm against the Braxton County / Nicholas County winner. The losing teams will play Friday evening December 14th in a Consolation game at 6:30pm. All games will be played at the Waco Center on the campus of Glenville State College.
