CANAAN VALLEY, WV. – The Canaan Valley Public Service District (CVPSD) is planning to provide wastewater treatment for three more communities in Canaan Valley by installing a new forcemain wastewater line along Cortland Road. This new line will allow for the retirement of three aging wastewater treatment systems at Deerfield Resort, Windwood Resort, and Canaan Village Inn. CVPSD wants to hear from homeowners along Cortland Road and surrounding areas who might also be interested in signing up for public wastewater treatment.
In 2007, the Public Service Commission of West Virginia allowed the creation of a new PSD to provide sanitary sewer to the Canaan Valley basin. CVPSD currently operates two wastewater treatment plants. One plant serves Timberline Four Seasons Resort and the other plant, known as Plant D, serves Beaver Ridge Resort, Northpoint Homeowners Association, North Lake Homeowners Association, and Black Bear Woods Resort. The new line is the second phase of a multi-phased regional wastewater treatment system in the Valley designed to consolidate the numerous wastewater discharges, improve water quality, and enable future growth and development in the area.
The proposed project will include two new sewer lift stations, one each at the existing Deerfield and Windwood Treatment facilities. These lift stations will pump wastewater through separate forcemain lines to Cortland Road, where they will combine into one forcemain and follow Cortland north to Plant D. Flows from the Canaan Village area will be conveyed from the existing Canaan Village treatment facility to the proposed new Deerfield lift station by way of conventional gravity sewer lines. During the design phase of the project, homes along Cortland Road and surrounding areas including Manor Road could be included in the system, but the CVPSD must develop a list of those homeowners who are interested by January 31, 2019.
If you live or own a home in this area and would like more information about the project and how to sign up, please call CVPSD board chairman Bob Metzger at 304.678.5507. Interested homeowners are welcome to attend the board’s January meeting to be held Tuesday January 15 at 6 p.m. at the Canaan Valley Fire Department office right next to the Canaan Valley Fire Hall, 6563 Appalachian Highway, Davis.
