The Tucker Community Foundation is launching a New Year, New Ways to Give campaign to make it easier for people to get involved with volunteer opportunities in their local community.
Every person who registers as a volunteer on the Potomac Highlands Volunteer Center website, www.WVVolunteers.com, will be entered to win a $100 cash prize. A total of three, $100 prizes will be given out during the six-week campaign that runs from Monday, Jan. 7 to Friday, Feb. 15.
The Potomac Highlands Volunteer Center is a new program started by the Tucker Community Foundation. The center connects individuals and groups interested in volunteering with organizations needing help in their local community.
Casey Gilbert, coordinator of the Potomac Highlands Volunteer Center, said the online platform makes it easy for volunteers to find local opportunities they feel passionate about and for organizations to recruit and connect with eager individuals.
“We know that many people are looking for new ways to get involved and serve their community. What better way to start off the New Year than by volunteering with a local organization,” Gilbert said. “The website allows volunteers to search for opportunities that meet their interest, help groups achieve their goals and make a difference.”
Volunteers can select what areas of volunteering they are interested in, such as helping at a local animal shelter, the library or environmental work. After a volunteer profile is created, the Potomac Highlands Volunteer Center makes it easy to respond to an organization’s need and track volunteer hours served.
This function is also good for students who need volunteer hours to graduate or for a service group. It builds a ‘volunteer resume’ for each volunteer listing the organizations and dates served.
“Through the website, organizations have the ability to post and share volunteer opportunities and events, access valuable data and reach potential volunteers across the entire Potomac Highlands region,” said Kelly Stadelman, development director for the Tucker Community Foundation. “We invite individuals and organizations to sign-up, get connected and begin their journey.”
The Potomac Highlands Volunteer Center serves as a digital hub for volunteer opportunities throughout the Tucker Community Foundation’s service area – Barbour, Grant, Mineral, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph and Tucker counties in West Virginia and Garrett County, Maryland.
