PARSONS, WV –The Tucker County Cultural District Authority (TCCDA) has been awarded a $125,000 grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. The grant will assist TCCDA in its work promoting “the cultural, artistic, historical, educational and recreational opportunities available in Tucker County.”

The grant will also be allocated to community partners and used for a variety of projects throughout the county. Most significantly, TCCDA will work to advance a countywide community branding initiative that includes cohesive signage, walking tour brochures and itineraries, and additional marketing. New signage will go in each of the cities and municipalities in Tucker County as well as on Corridor H.

Grant funds will also be allocated for the creation of a county Arts Council and to the ArtSpring organization in Thomas, which supports area artists. Other goals include updating dilapidated properties ordinances and building affordable workforce housing.

Each initiative is designed to increase development and cultural tourism in Tucker County while preserving the area’s unique heritage.

The West Virginia State Senate authorized the creation of a Tucker County Cultural District Authority in 2013 with the goal of, “preserving and advancing Tucker County’s culture.” It is currently the only countywide Cultural District Authority east of the Mississippi River. The organization works to promote the county’s art, music, history, recreation and planning opportunities for longtime locals and visitors alike.
