Patricia Burns, owner of Mane Stream Salon, has taken her business on a little adventure. She has closed the former shop next to the Thomas VFD and purchased a twelve by forty building and had it set up on her land that they had been working hard to prepare for nine months. Her goal is to be home more with her ten year old daughter Arabella, and this new location allows for that. The new address for the salon is 47 Belden Drive, just off of Douglas Road, in Thomas.
Burns has a long history with cosmetology and Mane Stream Salon. “Cosmetology was always something I wanted to do, but it was one of those things I didn’t know if I would ever have time to do”, she stated. From high school until two years post graduation, Burns worked full time jobs and found herself at Wal-Mart in Oakland as a cashier. “I started to hate my job”, she recollected, even after being there just six or seven months. “I couldn’t handle working a job I was never going anywhere with, so I decided to start looking for beauty schools”, she said. Burns thought she would start the next year and just wanted to start gathering information, but the International Beauty School in Cumberland, MD had other plans. Upon conducting their interview, they informed her they wanted her to start immediately. “So I did, which was a hard start because of me being a full time employee at Wal-mart, but I made it work”, said Burns.
Upon graduating from Beauty School, she became licensed in the State of Maryland and began working at Smart Style for almost three years. She was then approached by one of her clients to work for her mom, Phoebe Mollard, on her new endeavor with a nail salon that was literally right down the road from Burns’ home. Once Mollard found out Burns was a licensed cosmetologist, she asked if she would be willing to offer all the services Burns’ license allowed, to which she agreed. “I love to do everything that I paid to go to school for”, she said proudly.
Burns started working for Mollard in February of 2013 when Burns came up with the salon name, Mane Stream Salon. She continued offering services there until in 2016 she decided she wanted to make the business her own. In May of 2016, she did just that. “It was the best decision I made because now I can be my own boss”, she said. After staying in the same location under her ownership, Burns wanted to find a way to see her daughter more working a six day a week schedule, which is where she is today. Burns commented, “I see her every day and I’m able to do more things with her and my family. I can’t wait to see what the future brings for me and my family. I love being able to learn new things and love seeing all my clients, former and new”, she added.
Mane Stream Salon offers manicures, pedicures, and haircuts for the whole family, styling, perms, coloring, highlights, and facial waxing. Hours of operation are Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday noon until 8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
