FAIRMONT – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team traveled to East Fairmont High School on Monday January 21st to compete in the MLK Classic against Class “AA” Pikeview. The Lady Panthers built an early lead and they exploded in the second half to get the win for Tucker County 74-36.
Pikeview controlled the first quarter as they led after one quarter of play 16-10. The Lady Panthers would outscore Tucker County again in the second quarter by the count of 16-6 to make the halftime score 32-16.
Pikeview would then put the game out of reach in the third quarter as they outshot the Lady Mt. Lions 22-10 in the third to push the Pikeview lead to 54-26 after three. Pikeview continued to score in the fourth and the final score showed the Lady Panthers in front by the final score of 74-36.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Terra Kuhn, Riley Evans and McKinley Murphy with 7 points each. Aliyah Plum led the Lady Mt. Lions on the boards with 8 rebounds in the loss for Tucker County.
BAKER – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to East Hardy for a PVC Conference matchup. Tucker County raced out to an early lead and never looked back in route to an 83-15 win.
In the first quarter Tucker County rolled to a 28-1 lead after one quarter of play. The domination continued for the Lady Mt. Lions as they led at the half 45-7.
Tucker County outscored the Lady Cougars in the third 25-4 to make the score 70-11 after three quarters. The Lady Mt. Lions finished with the road win by the final score of 83-15.
Katie Surguy led Tucker County with 18 points and Jayden Kuhn added 14 points off the bench. Riley Evans had 13 points for the Lady Mt. Lions and Terra Kuhn chipped in with 11 points, 6 steals. McKinley Murphy dished out 8 assists for Tucker County in the win and Amber Price pulled down 6 rebounds. The Tucker County JV team got the victory in the first game by the final score of 28-16.
HAMBLETON – Tucker County hosted Notre Dame on Friday January 25th for a Varsity only contest. The Lady Mt. Lions took the early lead and never led as they picked up the win by the final score of 59-43.
Tucker County took the advantage early and stayed in front of the Lady Irish to make the score 16-5 after one quarter. The Lady Mt. Lions edged Notre Dame in the second quarter 15-10 to push the Tucker County lead to 31-15 at the half.
The Lady Irish would fight back in the third as Tucker County got into foul trouble and Notre Dame took advantage to outshoot Tucker County 15-9 in the third to give the Lady Mt. Lions a 40-30 lead after three. The fourth quarter belonged to Tucker County as they had a 19-13 advantage to make the final score 59-43 Tucker County.
Terra Kuhn led the Lady Mt. Lions in scoring with 20 points, 12 rebounds and Riley Evans added 15 points. McKinley Murphy chipped in with 10 points and collected 6 rebounds and dished out 5 assists.
HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions welcomed Wheeling Central to the TCHS Gym on Saturday afternoon January 26th. Tucker County got down early and were unable to complete the comeback as they fall in the contest by the final score of 67-56.
The Lady Maroon Knights came out firing as they took a 7-0 lead before Tucker County responded. Wheeling Central finished with a good first quarter to lead after one 23-16. The Lady Maroon Knights won the second quarter 20-13 to build their lead to 43-29 at the half.
The Lady Mt. Lions fought back in the third and they trimmed the Wheeling Central lead to single digits as Tucker County edged the Lady Maroon Knights 18-12 in the third to make the score 55-47. Wheeling Central then salted the clock away to pick up the win by the final score of 67-56.
Riley Evans and McKinley Murphy led Tucker County with 11 points each. Terra Kuhn added 9 points and 5 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions. Aliyah Plum led Tucker County on the boards with 8 rebounds and London Hood dished out a team high 5 assists. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team picked up the win 25-19.
Tucker County will return to action on Thursday January 31st at home against Pendleton County at 6pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then host Lincoln on Saturday February 2nd at 6pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
