MOOREFIELD – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team traveled to Moorefield on Wednesday February 6th for a PVC contest against rival Moorefield. The Lady Mt. Lions fell behind in the third quarter and could not complete the comeback as they fell in the contest 62-59.
The game went back and forth throughout the first quarter and the home team Moorefield led after one quarter of play 17-11. The Lady Mt. Lions fought back in the second quarter to cut into the Lady Yellowjackets lead as Tucker County outscored Moorefield 19-16 in the second to make the halftime score 33-30 Moorefield.
The Lady Yellowjackets pulled away from Tucker County late in the third quarter to outshoot the Lady Mt. Lions in the third 18-9 to give Moorefield a 51-39 advantage after three quarters. Tucker County then started to mount a comeback midway through the fourth quarter as they went on a 9-0 run to cut the Moorefield lead to 3. The game would stay close the rest of the contest, but the 20-11 Tucker County edge in the fourth was not enough as Lady Yellowjackets held on for the 62-59 win.
Riley Evans led Tucker County with 21 points and Terra Kuhn added 20 points, 14 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions. Aliyah Plum chipped in with 8 points, 6 rebounds and London Hood dished out a team high 6 assists for Tucker County in the loss.
HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted their old “AA” Rival Petersburg on Friday February 8th. Tucker County fought back to tie the game at the half and then went on to get the home victory by the final score of 63-54.
The first quarter was controlled by the visiting Lady Vikings as they led after one quarter of play 16-12. The Lady Mt. Lions battled back in the second quarter as they outscored Petersburg 17-13 in the second to make the halftime score 29-29.
Tucker County then built a lead in the third as they held the Lady Vikings to 11 points and the Lady Mt. Lions scored 15 points in the third to give Tucker County the 47-40 advantage after three periods. The Lady Mt. Lions then won the fourth quarter 16-14 to make the final score 63-54 Tucker County.
The Lady Mt. Lions placed 4 players in double figures led by McKinley Murphy with 13 points, Terra Kuhn with 12 points, Aliyah Plum 11 points and Riley Evans 10 points. Kuhn led Tucker County in rebounds with 15 boards while Plum and Kelcee James collected 7 rebounds each. London Hood dished out a team high 5 assists for Tucker County while Murphy
and James added 4 assists each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win.
Tucker County(12-6) will travel to Pocahontas County tonight February 13th and then they will host Pendleton County on Thursday February 14th for the last game of the regular season. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
