Submitted by Kathy Phillips –  Moore and her Librarian of the Year Award

Nancy Moore is a lifelong resident of Tucker County who has been dedicated to our public library for twenty- six years come March.  Moore serves as the director of the Five Rivers Public Library and it has grown exponentially thanks to her hard work and dedication.  During her endeavor, she has played a major role in improving the computer systems accessibilities, the vast growth of the DVD, audiobook, and magazine collection, increasing from a single public access computer to eight, and a new microviewer and circulation desk.

Moore also works closely with the Family Resource Network encouraging our county youth to develop a love of reading starting at a very young age.  Some of the programs she works closely with include 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library which provides monthly books to children ages 0-5, Movie Night Monday each month, summer months Movies and Munchies for kids, a monthly Book Club Discussion Group, and the WV Read Aloud Project.  They also publish a monthly newsletter and provide seasonal toddler time, free access to ancestry.com, free music access with card, the i-wonder program (STEM program for grades 5 and up), and free use of ABCMouse.com.

The library offers guests the use of a fax machine, copier, computers, an AccuCut machine, WiFi access, and notary services.  There is also a public meeting room available for use.  The structure itself has undergone major renovations such as a new ceiling in the original facility, as well as a state of the art addition to the building.

Moore gave a speech during her award recognition in Charleston recently.  Moore stated, “I would not be the Library Director I am without grace and strength from my God, my wonderful staff, board members past and present, Regional Library Upshur County staff and directors, state IT tech, WV Library Commission, volunteers, family and friends.  We had a vision to improve the library building, technology, increase the selection of material and services for our community, to make it one of the best.  One person cannot manage a library by themselves and make the necessary changes and improvements that have been accomplished at Five Rivers Public Library over the last 25 and half  years”.

Moore continued by sharing a quote by New York Public Library President Timothy Healy, stating “The most important asset of any library goes home at night, the library staff”.  She concluded with, “I am sincerely grateful for my board members for their time and dedication to the library. To my staff, I appreciate each of you, we make a great team. It takes a village. Thank You!”

In addition to her efforts for our library, Moore is a member of the Lions Club, Clover Run CEOF, a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church, and proclaimed her favorite activity is being a grammy to her four year old grandbaby.
