Harold Aubrey Jones, 93, a resident of Baltimore, MD, passed away January 29, 2019 at the Lighthouse Senior Living at Hopkins Creek. His wife and family surrounded him as he peacefully passed into eternity.
He was born February 8, 1925 to the late Jesse and Clara (nee Bolyard) Jones in Preston County, WV.
Harold was a hard-working man and lived a productive life. He was raised on the family farm on the border of Preston/Tucker County in the Sinclair Ridge area. He attended Parsons High School for three years with the class of 1943, but left in October of his senior year for a job with the defense plants in Baltimore, MD during WWII. He planned to return to school when the defense plants closed down, but instead he became continually employed. He retired in 1988 from 45 years of employment at Bethlehem Steel Company, and also after having devoted a few years of parallel service in the Army Air Force in the late 1940s. After retirement, he spent time each year vacationing at his trailer in his home area of Preston County, where he greatly enjoyed gardening, hunting and doing genealogy research as he reconnected with family and friends of his youth. In the 1990s, he returned to employment in Baltimore for a few years as a security guard, where he reveled in being needed for his service and continued commitment to work.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Rose (nee Sypolt) of 70 years; daughter Linda (spouse W. Kenny) Snider of Reedsville, WV; son Stanley (spouse Bea) of Lancaster, PA; son Doug (spouse Holly) of Baltimore, MD; and daughter Donna (spouse Craig) Schoppert of Bel Air, MD. His oldest grandson, Jeffrey Jones, resides in Parsons, WV with his children. He is survived by 11 other grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Denzil, Aldine and Wanda. He was preceded in death by siblings Elsworth, Lucille, and Betty.
A celebration of life gathering was held with his wife, children and offspring on February 9, 2019 at his home of nearly 70 years in Baltimore, MD. Cremation services were provided by a local funeral home as per his wishes. His ashes will be placed in the cemetery at Mt. Sarah Methodist Church on Sinclair Ridge near Rowlesburg, WV, where his gravestone rests among those of the many other members of his family that have preceded him in death.
