Local Girls Compete at inaugural Mountain East Conference Acrobatics and Tumbling Championship

Three local athletes will be competing in the inaugural Mountain East Conference Acrobatics and Tumbling Championship at Fairmont State University on April 12 and 13.


Sydney Moore and Kelsey Kyle will be competing for the MEC regular season champions, Fairmont State University, who will be going into the conference championship ranked number one, while Kenzie Kyle will be competing for West Liberty University, the forth ranked team in the MEC.  Six MEC schools currently offer Acrobatics and Tumbling. These include Fairmont State, Glenville State, West Liberty, West Virginia Wesleyan, Davis & Elkins, and Urbana.  Schools will compete in individual event championships, as well as a team championship.

Moore is a freshman at Fairmont State University majoring in nursing.  She is the daughter of Becky and Bob Moore.  Sydney is a base and participates in the compulsory toss, sync pyramid, 450 salto toss, sync toss and team event.

Kenzie Kyle is a sophomore at West Liberty University majoring in Elementary Education.  She is the daughter of David and Amber Kyle.  Kenzie is a base and participates in compulsory acro, compulsory pyramid, compulsory toss, 7 element acro, inversion pyramid, sync pyramid, open pyramid, sync toss, open toss and team event.

Kelsey Kyle is a senior at Fairmont State University graduating in May with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice.  She is a daughter of David and Amber Kyle.  Kelsey is a base and participates in compulsory acro, compulsory pyramid, compulsory toss, 6 element acro, inversion pyramid, open pyramid, sync toss, open toss and team event.  Kelsey was the week three NCATA Specialist of the week, 6 time NCATA event finals qualifier and has scored 8 perfect 10’s in the last two seasons.

Number two Glenville State College will go against number three West Virginia Wesleyan at 5 p.m on Friday, April 12 at the Fairmont State Feaster Center followed by number one Fairmont State against number four West Liberty at 7 p.m.  Individual event championships will take place on Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m with the MEC championship meet happening at 4 p.m.

A meet consists of two teams competing head-to-head in six different events: Compulsory (four heats), Acro (three heats), Pyramid (three heats), Toss (three heats), Tumbling (six heats) and Team (one heat). Scores are based on pre-determined start values and evaluated on the execution of the skills.
