TUCKER COUNTY SOFTBALL END SEASON AFTER SECTIONAL LOSSES

MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team traveled to Moorefield on Monday April 29th for a Sectional game. Tucker County scored early, but the Lady Yellowjackets exploded for a 20-1 victory.


Lauren Cockerham got on base in the 1st inning after being hit by a pitch. Cockerham then stole 2nd base to get into scoring position. Anna DiBacco then drove in the run on a base hit to make the score 1-0 Tucker County early. Moorefield then scored 19 runs over the next 3 innings to lead 19-1 after the 3rd inning. The Lady Yellowjackets capped off the scoring and the game by adding 1 run in the 4th inning to make the final score 20-1 Moorefield. McKinley Murphy and Aliyah Plum added base hits for Tucker County in the defeat. Cokerham took the loss on the mound for the Lady Mt. Lions.

FRANKLIN – Tucker County traveled to Pendleton County on Tuesday April 30th for a Sectional Elimination game for the Lady Mt. Lions. Tucker County got on the scoreboard first, but the visiting team could not extend their season as they fell to the Lady Wildcats by the final score of 11-3.

Tucker County started the game with 2 hits to give the Lady Mt. Lions the lead early 1-0. Pendleton County answered back with 2 runs to make the score 2-1 Pendleton. Then in the 3rd inning a McKinley Murphy triple drove in 2 runs to give Tucker County the lead 3-2. The Lady Wildcats then answered back in the bottom of the 3rd with 5 runs to put Pendleton County back ahead 7-3. The home standing Lady Wildcats added 4 more runs in the 4th inning to put the game out of reach as the score went to 11-3 Pendleton. Tucker County could not get any more runs in the contest as they fell by the final score of 11-3.

Anna DiBacco led Tucker County with 2 hits. Lauren Cockerham, Kristen Hicks, Gracie Rapp and McKinley Murphy had 1 hit each also for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Tucker County ended the season with a 6-16 record.
