Rufus Jackson Lewis, Sr., 91, of Eglon, WV passed away June 6, 2019 at his home. He was born March 14, 1928 in Leadmine, WV. He was a son of the late James Harrison and Edna Alice Blamble Lewis.


He is survived by five sons, Rufus Jackson Lewis, Jr., Texas, Bradley Jackson Lewis, Cannonsburg, PA, James Wyatt Lewis, Cresaptown, MD, Marshall Neil Lewis, Eglon, WV, and Marvin Dean Lewis, Deltona, FL, two daughters, Joyce Crawford, Oakland, MD, and Renee J. Gaither, Eglon, WV, two brothers, Harold and Elbert, and one sister, Alma, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Melody Ann Lewis and Debbie Allison, six brothers, Webster, Edison, Roy, Alva, Cecil, and Rollin, and two sisters, Mabel and Freda.

Mr. Lewis was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. He worked as a concrete mason for many years. He enjoyed hunting and gardening; watching westerns and wrestling. He loved his trips to Colorado with his family. He took great pride caring for the farm. His favorite pastime was spending time with his friends shooting pool. He was a member of the FOE 936 where he was very lucky in “pulling tickets”, a chartered member of the Aurora Fire Dept., the American Legion of Oakland, and the Carpenter’s Local 423.

Friends were received at Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home, Monday, June 10, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral services were held, 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, at Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Wright officiating. At the request of Mr. Lewis, following the services, he was cremated. Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
