Two new members were inducted into the Parsons High School Hall of Fame during the 46th annual PHS Alumni Reunion held at the Tucker Valley Elementary Middle School on May 25, 2019.
The first was Dr. Donna Goss Carr, PHS class of l965. While attending high school, Dr. Carr was treasurer of the Future Nurses Club, secretary of her class, a member
of the 4-H club and a Tucker County Fair Maid-of-Honor. She was also a member and officer of the Evangelical United Brethern Church and participated in many of its activities.
After graduation, she married, started a family, and attended D & E College where she graduated with Honors with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. She later earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Salem-Tekiyo University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from WVU.
She was employed for several years in the Tucker County School System in different capacities including Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent, Adult Education Coordinator and Professional Development Coordinator She was also instrumental in implementing The Early Childhood Program.
She continued her career in the Virginia Educational System in the Chesapeake Bay area. After her tour in Virginia she returned to Tucker County and is currently Chairperson, Division of Education and Sport Science and Assistant Professor of Education at D & E College.
The second member of the Hall of Fame is Vickie Bunnell Mason, a graduate of the class of 1968. While in high school, she was a member of the Future Nurses of America, The Thespian Society ad The Future Business Leaders of America. She also served on the Year Book Committee.
After graduation, she married, started a family, worked full tine and began taking extension courses at D & E College. She graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Counseling. This was followed by a Master’s Degree in Correctional Counseling from Marshall University in 1998.
She was employed by the State of WV for 37 years in various capacities including, Department of Human Services as a day care advisor, Work and Training Specialist, Adult Service Worker, Foster Care Worker, Child Protective Services and a Probation Officer for the 21st Judicial Circuit of the WV Circuit Court where she retired in 2013.
She is active in the local community, having served as former President of the Hendricks Ruritan Club, a lifetime member of the Tucker County Fair Association, member of the Tucker County Veterans Association, Board of Directors of the Tucker County Senior Center and formerly the Board of Directors of the North Central Community Action Association.
She is a member of the Parsons Church of God, where she served as Family Training Hour President, Secretary of Women’s Ministries and Sunday School Treasurer.
