Wheeling Symphony Announces Four City Independence Day Tour

Wheeling, WV) – Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) announces its annual Celebrate America tour, conducted by Maurice Staton, featuring guest artist Gary Mauer. The tour makes stops in cities in West Virginia, including Weirton, Davis, Clarksburg, and Wheeling. The concerts are free and open to the public.
Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s annual summer holiday tour reaches tens of thousands of West Virginians and their neighbors each year. Along with favorite orchestral hits performed by the WSO, the concerts are headlined with special guest artists. Gary Bauer joins the WSO after most recently starring in the Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera, playing the Phantom. As part of the popular “Bravo Broadway!” concert series, Mr. Mauer has sung with numerous symphonies across the country, including Cleveland, Utah, and Peter Nero and the Philly Pops. He has travelled extensively with Marvin Hamlisch and has joined Mr. Hamlisch with the Chicago and Pittsburgh Symphonies.
Guest conductor Maurice Staton recently was seen conducting the Wheeling Symphony for its annual Young People’s Concert Tour. Mr. Staton has held positions with the Hartford Symphony, Johnstown Symphony, and the position of Co-Music Director for the Pittsburgh Chamber Orchestra, which serves as a strong musical presence in the Pittsburgh chamber music community. In addition to his conducting work, Mr. Staton can be seen in the violin section of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.
“Our annual Celebrate America tour is extra-special this year,” says Bruce Wheeler, Executive Director of the WSO. “The symphony is celebrating its 90th Anniversary, starting with our 4th of July concerts. We couldn’t be happier to have guest conductor Maurice Staton lead the orchestra with Broadway star Gary Mauer to a number of fan favorites, including “God Bless the USA,” “Country Roads,” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.” It’s going to be a wonderful concert that we hope everyone comes out to support!” The tour runs from July 4st – 7th.
