The Blackwater Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet on July 27 at 1 p.m. at Amelia’s Restaurant in Canaan Valley. All members and potential members are urged to attend and are needed as our chapter is hosting the Central District meeting on Aug. 17, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Parsons.

Installation of Officers will be held at this meeting. Our new officers are Regent, Cynthia Kolsun; Vice Regent, Cathy Hebb; Treasurer, Sue Silk; Secretary, Wanda Booth; Chaplain, Betty Knicley; Historian, Cathy Hebb; Registrar, Sue Silk.

Blackwater Chapter was organized Oct. 26, 1933 by Mrs. L. H. (Pearle) Mott of Davis, who had become a member at large in October 1932. Mrs. Mott accompanied her husband, a member of the State legislature, to meetings in Charleston where she met the wife of the State Treasurer, Mrs. W. S.

Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was the State Chairman of the Membership Committee of the DAR. She asked Mrs. Mott if she were eligible to become a member, and as a result Mrs. Mott joined as a member-at-large and immediately became interested in establishing a chapter in Tucker County.

Our chapter observes Constitution Week in September and tries to have one meeting in the Canaan Valley area once a year to make it easier for our members in that area to attend. We honor the Veterans in Cortland Acres in observance of Veterans Day with cake, ice cream, chips and drink.
