MOOREFIELD – The Tucker County Football team traveled to Moorefield on Friday September 20th for a PVC Conference matchup with the Yellowjackets. The Mt. Lions struggled to slow down Moorefield and they fell in the contest by the final score of 48-16.
Moorefield won the coin toss and elected to receive the kick to start the game. The Yellowjackets then put together a 6 play 69 yard drive that was capped off on a 28 yard touchdown pass. The extra point kick was good to make the score 7-0 with 10:08 left I the first quarter. Tucker County went 3 plays and they had to punt the ball back to Moorefield.
The home team then went to work again. Moorefield then scored on a 5 yard touchdown run to push the Yellowjacket lead to 14-0 with 6:38 left I the first quarter. Another punt for the Mt. Lions gave the ball back to Moorefield again. The Yellowjackets would then score again with 5:29 left in the first from 7 yards out. The PAT kick was good to give Moorefield a 21-0 advantage. Tucker County continued to struggle on offense as the Yellowjacket defense forced another Mt. Lions punt. Moorefield would then add 2 more scores in the first quarter. A 53 yard touchdown run and a 21 yard touchdown run to make the score 35-0 Moorefield at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter Tucker County would punt the ball back to the Yellowjackets again. Moorefield then took the punt and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown with 10:53 left I the second quarter to make the score 42-0. The Yellowjackets added another 5 yard touchdown and after the blocked PAT by Jeremy Liller Tucker County trailed Moorefield 48-0 with 5:03 left in the second quarter. The Mt. Lions would then get the offense moving on their next drive as Tucker County drove the ball 93 yards on the drive that was capped off on an 18 yard touchdown pass from Liam Hood to Hunter Collar with 3:31 left in the second quarter. The 2 point conversion was good by Tucker County and the score went to 48-8 Moorefield. The first half then came to an end to keep the halftime score 48-8 Moorefield.
Tucker County received the kick to start the third quarter and their offense went to work. Then 5 plays later Hunter Collar scored on a 7 yard touchdown run with 5:26 left in the third quarter. The 2 point conversion was good to make the score 48-16 Moorefield.
The fourth quarter started with Tucker County putting together a drive that went down to the Moorefield 11. The drive stalled there to give the Yellowjackets back the ball after a failed fourth down play. Moorefield then ran out the clock the rest of the quarter to preserve the win by the final score of 48-16.
Liam Hood led Tucker County with 6 of 13 passing for 90 yards. Jeremy Liller added 11 carries for 61 yards rushing and Hunter Collar had 4 receptions for 93 yards in the loss for the Mt. Lions. Moorefield outgained the Mt. Lions in total offense 471-203 in total yards.
