Carney Blake “Bubby” Ratliff, age 86 years, a resident of Whitmer, WV departed this life Sunday November 17, 2019 at Mercy Health in Youngstown, OH.

He was born Friday, October 27, 1933 at Red Creek, WV, a son of the late Charles and Strawdie Wolford Ratliff. He was married to the former Freda Louise Reed, who preceded her in death. They had celebrated thirty one years of marriage.

Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Jones and husband Gary of Geneva, OH and Victoria Bennett of Harman, WV; two step children, Brenda Harper and husband Larry of Hubbard, OH and Deryle Nelson and wife Kellie of Eglon, WV; one sister, Helen Roy of Geneva, OH; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews, who loved him very much and his tall tales.

Preceding him in death are his step-Father, Merlin “Curley” Lanham; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Ratliff.

He attended the Flanagan Hill School. He moved at the age of 16 years to Cleveland, OH, where he started his career as heavy equipment operator. He returned back to his home in West Virginia during the mid-seventies. He was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ at Whitmer, WV. He enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing and trapping. He and his wife always raised a large garden, canned and preserved and gave a lot of it away to his friends and neighbors. He will be remembered for his work ethic and in his later years, his love of church and God.

The family will receive friends at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ at Whitmer, WV from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Final rites will be conducted at the church on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Owen Whetzel will officiate and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ at Whitmer. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Carney Blake “Bubby” Ratliff. Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
