Charles “Fred” Frederick Trader, Jr., 76, a resident of Parsons, passed from this life Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.

Fred was born on Saturday, January 9, 1943, a son of the late Charles Frederick Trader Sr., and Freda Knotts Trader. On August 16, 1964, in Grafton, he married the former Wanda Marie Parsons, who survives. They had celebrated 55 years of marriage.

Left to cherish Fred’s memory besides his wife, is a son, Charles “Charlie” F. Trader and wife, Kristin, of Daytona Beach, FL, a daughter, April M. Bodkin and husband, Rick, of Parsons, one brother, Richard Dale Trader and wife, Leslie, of Beaver Spring, PA, three sisters, Patty Potter and husband, Lee, of Florida, Diane Logan of Georgia, and Darlene Tupts and husband, Tom, of Geneva, OH, four brothers-in-law, Russell Parsons, Jack Helmick, James Helmick, and Keith Helmick, one sister-in-law, Chrystle Rose, several nieces, nephews, and special friends, Tom and Michele Felton and Howard and Rose Adams.

Fred had three grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Miranda Maxwell, Kaitlyn Bodkin and Ricky Simmons of Philippi, Shane Bodkin and Savannah Carr of Morgantown, and one very special great-grandchild, Gideon Nash Maxwell.

Preceding Fred in death besides his parents were two brothers, William Trader and Cecil Trader, two sisters, Melody Miscky and Henrietta Kenney, three brothers-in-law, Homer Parsons, Dale Helmick, and Ralph Helmick.

Fred attended the schools of Perry, Ohio. He had been employed for U.S. Steel in Niles, OH, and for Parsons Footwear, retiring in 1995. After his retirement, he enjoyed wood working, hunting, working on old Ford Mustangs, and repairing bicycles for the WV Children’s Home in Elkins. He also enjoyed attending church and was a member of the Parsons Church of the Nazarene. Fred especially loved spending time with his family and his dog, Daisy.

Visitation was held at the Parsons Church of the Nazarene on Saturday from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services were held from the church on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at 3 p.m. Rev. Steven Morrow officiated, and Fred’s request for cremation was followed. The family has suggested that memorial contributions or bikes be given to “Fill Fred’s Bike Shop with Bicycles for Kids” campaign. Fred has a building at his home dedicated to the receiving and distribution of bikes to needy children in this area. The Hostetler Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Charles “Fred” Frederick Trader. Send online condolences to the family at www.hostetlerfuneralhome.com.
