Davis is once again home to a new business located beside the Post Office and The Wandering Caravan. Owner Wendy Wood McClung cut the ribbon at the grand opening of Emerald Tree Boutique, named partially in honor of her late Father whose nickname was “Big Tree”. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Wood spent some time living in the Islands of Key West. It is there she met her husband Robby McClung, who was vacationing at the time, who grew up in Randolph County. After spending a couple summers in the area enjoying their love of outdoor recreation and the open spaces, it was an easy decision to make Davis their permanent home in May of 2017. “We moved here with the hopes of a more balanced lifestyle,” she stated for herself, husband, and three sons.
McClung has nearly fifteen years experience in the fashion industry and had her own line of cocktail dresses and evening gowns when living across the northern border. She also has a strong retail background providing her the perfect foundation to open up a small business.
McClung spent six months in India experiencing their culture and learning their lifestyle while soaking up as much fashion as she could during her visit.
Emerald Tree Boutique is a twofold business; the store front, which has been her primary focus recently, but also her desire to once again develop her own line of women wear and jewelry to be showcased in the boutique and online. Currently the boutique features unique gifts, handmade goods and artistic pieces from local and afar artisans hand dyed garments, and jewelry. The approach McClung hopes to take with her own line is a “casual/fashion/comfort” combination that will appeal to women of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Offering a full size range is her primary goal to discourage body shaming and having so much focus falling on the size of the individual. “I kind of want to eliminate that and make it (shopping for clothes) fun for everyone,” she said.
The current store hours for the remainder of 2019 will vary with the best option being to check her social media pages by searching Facebook and Instagram for Emerald Tree Boutique. She also has a website at www.emeraldtreeboutique.com. After the first of the year, she plans to hold more set hours including Thursdays from noon until 5 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
