The holiday season is upon us and it is a very special opportunity to celebrate life. You can remember loved ones who have passed away or honor those living and those who are suffering illnesses. West Virginia Caring is holding its annual “Light up a Life” event now through the end of the year.

For the past 36 years, West Virginia Caring has held its “Light up a Life” annual campaign to raise money for the organization’s patient care services. WV Caring is one of the oldest non-profit hospice organization that provides end-of-life care for people who have life-limiting illnesses regardless of their inability to pay.

Two tree lighting ceremonies will be held in Tucker County. One will be held at the Grant County Bank in Davis on Thursday, December 5 at noon, and the second will be held at the at the Citizen’s Bank of WV in Parsons on Friday, December 6 at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

By supporting Light up a Life, you are also helping your loved ones and friends who need end-of-life get the care they deserve.

“And remember to note that 100% of the money we raise stays here in the counties we serve,” said Nancy Dotson, Volunteer Services Coordinator for WV Caring.

For a donation, individuals can place a light, ornament or a special keepsake angel on a tree in any of the participating locations. Donations are made in memory or honor of a friend or loved one. Everyone who is remembered or honored is entered in a memory book, which is one display throughout the season.

Lights can be purchased for $5, and glass heart ornaments for $20. This year’s ornament is handmade from fine porcelain with a glaze luster featuring an angel holding a heart, which glows when a mini tree light is behind it for $35. All donations are tax deductible.

For more information about participating with “Light up a Life” contact WV Caring at 1-800-350-1161 or visit our website at www.wvcaring.org to order online.
