This week’s photo is of Main Street in Currytown. The place was given the name Currytown by John Curry who operated the John Curry Lumber Company on the Laurel Fork in 1906. Currytown was adjacent to Jenningston. John Curry sold the company to Perley and Crockett Lumber Company in 1907; they operated the business until 1912. The name of the town changed to Perleytown after the new owners took over. Some info on last week’s photo: in or around the 50’s Gilbert Knicley operated an auction house selling used furniture in a section of the store. In the 60’s, the WV State Police used a part of the building; names mentioned include: Jim Rightmire as a police officer, office workers: Donna Goss Carr and Donna Teagarden. Some remembered going there to take their drivers license test. It has been mentioned that Adkins Home Decorating Center operated a store in part of the building selling household goods and home decor. News and Novelty operated in the building and Orr-Wilson Insurance. Ideas or comments call Tim Turner 304-478-3389.
