Tucker County Board of Education Meets In Spite of Weather

In spite of the recent arctic weather, and even though school had been cancelled for the day, the Tucker County Board of Education diligently met for their scheduled meeting.

President J. Parsons called the meeting to order with all members present. Following the Pledge of Allegiance and having no delegations pertaining to agenda items, the Board moved to Agenda adjustments.

One adjustment was made to the agenda under personnel and the meeting moved into consent items. The Board approved the minutes of the previous meeting and special meeting.

The Board then went on to approve budget supplements and transfers. A couple of highlights were a fundraiser by Pre-K for $1,814.94 and a ski activity grant from the Tucker Community Foundation for $500.

The Board then approved the payment of vendor accounts and paid bills. Payroll in the amount of $181,499.85 and other payments totaling $387,459.95.

The Board approved the attendance exception presented:

John and Amy Wagner intent to home-school their son, Trey.

After a brief review by D. Lambert, the Board approve the financial report for November 2013 as presented.

M. Parsons had a brief question regarding 4-H during Board Committee Reports.

Having no delegations pertaining to non-agenda items the Board moved on to Personnel Matters.

The Board accepted the resignation of Cyrena R. Harper as substitute teacher for Tucker County Schools effective Jan.7, 2014.

The Board approved the employment of Jonathan D. Cooper as Custodian III, Tucker Valley Elementary Middle School for the rest of the 2013-2014 school year.

The Board accepted the resignation of Debra L. Fike as Assistant Girls Softball Coach, TCHS, effective January 7, 2014.

Before adjourning, Board of Education Vice-President Janet Preston, polled fellow Board members to see if they were amenable to changing the meeting times in the winter to possibly 4:30p.m. instead of the current 6 p.m. time.

Motion was passed to adjourn.

The next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at the Tucker County Board of Education Office, 100 Education Lane, Parsons, West Virginia.
