Howard Steven “Steve” Long

Howard Steven “Steve” Long, age 73 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Sunday evening, February 2, 2020 at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins, WV, surrounded by his loving family.  He had been in declining health, however death was unexpected.

He was born Sunday, April 28, 1946 at Parsons, WV, a son of the late Howard Leonard and Betty Louise McDaniel Long.  He was previously married to the former Janet Louise Snyder.

Surviving are one son, Steven Allen Long of Maryland; three brothers, Danny Wayne Long and wife Judy of Aiken, SC, Myron Keith Long and wife Lesia of Capon Bridge, WV and Michael Dale “Mike” Long of Parsons, WV; one sister, Deborah
Susan “Susie” Houser and husband Paul of Valley Head, WV; several nieces and one nephew; and special friends, John and Shirley Helmick of Georgia.

Preceding him in death is one son, Jeffrey Scott Long.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1965.  He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam Conflict.  He was an employee of the former Dorman Mill and the former R.H. Armstrong Co.  He was an equipment operator at Fort Gordon, GA and worked for the Fairfax Material Co at Thomas, WV, until retiring during 2008.  He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at Parsons.  He enjoyed watching WVU basketball and football and going to the races at Kerens.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.  Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 11 a.m..  The Rev. Justin Jones will officiate and interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows, where the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Guard, the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Howard Steven “Steve” Long.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
