The winter weather is not only causing problems with schools staying open and road conditions. It is also causing problems for the High School and Middle School Basketball teams.
Tucker Valley Middle School Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball teams are trying to finish out the last few games of their regular season, but the school cancelations have prevented either team from playing. The Girls’ team has not played since Jan 13th and the Boys’ team has not played since Jan 14th. Both teams will look to get back into the gym this week if weather permits. The Lady Wildcats was scheduled to travel to Pendleton County on Monday Jan 27th and then host Buckhannon on Tuesday Jan 28th. Tucker Valley Girls’ will then host Elkins on Friday. The Boys’ team was scheduled to travel to Buckhannon on Tuesday Jan 28th and then they will travel to Elkins on Friday.
The Tucker County Lady Mt. Lions have not played a game since Jan 16th when they traveled to Notre Dame and got the victory 51-26. It will be 11 days between games for the Tucker County Girls’ and with the last 4 weeks of the season upon us there is no room for more make up dates. If there are more cancelations then the Lady Mt. Lions may be faced with losing some games. This week they were scheduled to host East Hardy on Tuesday Jan 28th and then they will host PVC rival Pocahontas County on Thursday Jan 31st. The following week has the Lady Mt. Lions playing 4 road games in 6 days as they will travel to Pocahontas County on Monday Feb 3rd, Tygarts Valley on Tuesday Feb 4th, Pendleton County on Thursday Feb 6th and then travel to Southern, MD on Saturday Feb 8th.
The last game for the Tucker County Boys’ Basketball was a road victory at Tygarts Valley 68-40 on Friday Jan 17th. They were scheduled to host Notre Dame on Monday Jan 27th. The schedule for the Mt. Lions is also getting crowded as they have had 5 total games postponed due to weather so far this season and all have been rescheduled. They are also looking at a limited time frame to get games in. With only 5 weeks left in the season and both the Girls’ and Boys’ teams looking to make up games the schedules will get complicated if any more games are postponed. The Boys’ will host Tygarts Valley tonight and then next week they will play 4 games as they will host Pocahontas County on Monday Feb 3rd, travel to East Hardy on Feb 5th, host Southern, MD on Feb 7th and then host Pendleton County on Feb 8th.
It will be a busy time the next several weeks for the Basketball teams in the area, let us just hope that the weather holds out and allows the teams to get in the games that are scheduled.
