HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted Union for a Semi-Final Sectional Playoff game on Tuesday February 25th. Tucker County pulled away in the second half in route to a 58-18 Sectional Playoff victory over Union.
The first quarter was dominated by defense as both teams struggled to score as Tucker County held a slim 4-2 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Mt. Lions pulled away slightly in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Tigers 17-9 to make the halftime score 21-11 Tucker County.
The third quarter was controlled by the Lady Mt. Lions as they exploded to outrun Union 24-4 in the period to push the Tucker County lead to 45-15 after three. The Lady Mt. Lions then outshot Union 13-3 in the fourth to make the final score 58-18 Tucker County.
Terra Kuhn led the Lady Mt. Lions with 20 points, 8 rebounds and London Hood added 18 points, 5 rebounds in the win for Tucker County. Gracie Rapp led Tucker County with 11 rebounds and she chipped in with 8 points. Kadie Colebank had 6 points and 5 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions.
PETERSBURG – Tucker County traveled to Petersburg to face Moorefield for the Region 2 Section 2 Championship on Thursday February 27th. In front of a packed crowd the Lady Mt. Lions held on late to get the win the game and capture the Sectional Championship by the score of 36-35.
Tucker County jumped out to an early lead to start the game, but Moorefield battled back as the first quarter ended with the Lady Mt. Lions ahead 9-8. The second quarter was played even as the Lady Yellowjackets edged Tucker County in the second 11-10 to make the halftime score 19-19.
The third quarter was won by Tucker County 9-6 as the game remained close after three quarters 28-25 Lady Mt. Lions. Tucker County then built a 6 point lead late in the game, but Moorefield continued to fight back. Moorefield was unable to secure a defensive rebound after a Tucker County missed foul shot and the Lady Mt. Lions ran out the clock to get the victory by the final score of 36-35.
London Hood led Tucker County with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and Terra Kuhn added 9 points, 5 rebounds. Kadie Colebank had 9 points and a team high 12 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. Gracie Rapp chipped in with 4 points and 9 rebounds for Tucker County in the victory.
Tucker County(17-7) will host Doddridge County tonight Wednesday March 4th for the Regional Championship at 7pm. The winner of tonight’s game will compete in the WV Girls’ Basketball State Tournament next Thursday in Charleston. For more info go to TuckerCountySportsCom.
