Robert Eugene (Bob) Maclay

Robert Eugene (Bob) Maclay, 85, passed away on May 26, 2013 after a long bout with Parkinsons Disease.  He was born in Auburn, Neb. on July 22, 1927 to Gladys Yont Maclay and Wilber S. Maclay who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mitz Maclay of Ocala. Fla., his daughters Laurie E. McCain, (Tim) of Crownsville, Md., Lou Ann Maclay of Ellicott City, Md., sons Chris E. Maclay of Elkridge, Md., Donald C. Maclay (Karen) of Princeton,W.Va., grandsons Matthew M. McCain (Verna) of Lakewood, Col., Patrick D. Lipscomb of Halethrope, Md., granddaughter Shelley R. Lipscomb  of Catonsville, Md., great-granddaughter Claire H. McCain, brother James E. Maclay of Albuquerque, N.M., and sister Molly Hosic of Jacksonville, Fla.

After completing high school, Bob served seven years in the U.S. Navy before attending the University of Nebraska where he earned his degree as a Civil Engineer.  After 35 years’ service with the Department of Agriculture, Bob retired and then moved to Canaan Valley where he had been active on both the Canaan and Timberline Ski Patrol.  He was a volunteer fireman, an EMT on the rescue squad and was instrumental in the completion of the Canaan Valley Fire Hall.

Bob earned the rank of Black Belt in Judo, competed in motorcycle trials, loved skiing, scuba diving and at the age of 65, became a pilot.

Friends are invited to join the family at a celebration of Bob’s life on Saturday, July 27 at 11 a.m. at the Canaan Valley Fire Hall.  Rev. Fred Soltow will be officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canaan Valley Fire Department.
