David Wayne “Dave” Simmons, Sr. age 63 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at his home. He had been in his usual health however death was unexpected.
He was born Friday, January 25, 1957 at Parsons, WV, a son of the late James Elwood and Catherine “Louise” Phillips Simmons. He was twice married. First to Deborah Lovonne Wilson, who survives at Hazelton, PA and second to Beverly Kay Carr, who survives at Barberton, OH. Also surviving is his fiancé, Donna Hardy Poling of Parsons.
Left to cherish his memories are three sons, David Wayne “Dave” Simmons, Jr. and wife April, Christopher Scott “Chris” Simmons and James Elwood “Jimmy” Simmons and fiancé Tessa, all of Parsons; two brothers, James Howard Simmons and wife Susie of Oshkosh, WI and Richard Donald “Rick” Simmons of Parsons; one sister, Marcia Elaine Simmons Cary of Benicia, CA; one sister-in-law, Janet E. Simmons; one grandson, Hudson James Simmons; four step children, Brandi, Misty, Destry and Holly Poling; and six step-grandchildren, Mariah Tennant, Brionna and Jillian Plumbley, Hunter and Jaislynn Grafton and Xander Phillips; and several nieces and nephews
Preceding him in death are one son, Michael Wayne Carr; twin infant daughters, Melissa Dawn and Stephanie Dawn Simmons; two brothers, Keith Edward Simmons and Joseph Theodore “Joe” Simmons and his Granny, Katherine Otia Shaw Phillips; one granddaughter, Raya Claire Simmons.
He attended Parsons High School. He was a former employee of Sears, where he got his degree as an auto mechanic, the Kingsford Charcoal Company and Frank Roberts Construction. He was a master plumber and master electrician. He enjoyed watching western and military movies and loved spending time with his family and having cookouts.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday from 4 to 7 PM. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 11 AM. The Reverend Neil Parsons officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV. As we continue to follow the CDC guidelines and the recent mandate by Gov. Jim Justice, social distancing as well as mask will be required for those in attendance.
