Chip Shots FootGolf Challenge Fundraiser

Dryfork – Chips Shots FootGolf and the Snow Sports Museum of West Virginia are teaming up for the Second Annual Chip Shots Challenge!  Come out for an extraordinarily good time.  The FUNraiser takes place on August 15 at 1 pm at Chips Shots FootGolf, Dryfork, WV.  The Challenge is a kick-play tournament (like a golf stroke-play tournament).  The tournament features male and female age divisions with prizes. Light food and beverages provided.  The cost is $25/person.  Register online at https://www.snowsportsmuseumwv.org/events.  Please review the COVID-19 procedures.

The Snow Sports Museum of West Virginia (SSMWV) preserves and documents West Virginia’s rich snow sports history.  The SSMWV is committed to making these stories and artifacts available to the public.  The SSMWV’s fundraising efforts support its quest for a physical location to house and display donated treasures.  The SSMWV Board and Members believe that its preservation efforts and a physical museum will augment and contribute to the local economy.  The SSMWV also recognizes the need to make this cultural resource available to people everywhere.  It will use its digital presence (website, social media, etc.) to provide access to a broad audience.  All fundraising supports this work.

Kim Williams, founder, and Chair of SSMWV, says, “The Snow Sports Industry began in West Virginia way back in 1951.  There is a rich history out there but is at risk of disappearing.  We must act now to preserve this history and cultural resource before it’s gone forever.”

The Chips Shots Challenge is just one fun way to support the museum and learn about Snow Sports History.  SSMWV hosts symposiums throughout the winter that highlight aspects of the diverse history.  Last winter, the SSMWV hosted round tables on snowboarding, the 60th Anniversary of the Governor’s Cup, and Racing History.  The SSMWV decided to repeat the FootGolf Challenge event because the event is outside with the ability to social distance.

FootGolf is just like golf, but instead of striking a ball with a club, you kick a soccer ball.  Tim and Paula Worden created Chip Shots from part of Paula’s family farm.  It features nine holes with spectacular mountain views. Tim Worden, Chip Shots FootGolf, says, “This is the perfect activity to have fun and social distance. You are outside in the mountain air.  There is no personal contact while competing with teammates and other teams.  We had an amazingly good time last year, and we’re excited to do it again this year.”
