Guidelines for attendance at Tucker County sporting events

For the first two weeks of the sports season attendance at Tucker County sporting events will look very different than it has before. The WVSSAC released guidelines to follow for attendance at sporting events. The guidelines will use the WVDE (West Virginia Dept. Of Education) color code map released each Saturday evening to determine who can attend the following weeks games. The map can be accessed at https://wvde.us/school-reentry-metrics-protocols/.

For home events (high school football, middle school football, golf, x-country, cheer and volleyball) if Tucker County is a green county anyone living in the household of the athlete and spouses of the coaches will be allowed to attend. Essential personnel (law enforcement, medical services, administrative staff, media, athletic department staff) will also be permitted to attend.

If Tucker County is a yellow county, then only the parents/guardians of the athlete and coaches’ spouses will be permitted to attend the game along with essential personnel. If Tucker County is an orange or red county, then no games will be allowed to be played. Essential personnel only will be allowed on the sidelines of football games.

These same guidelines will be used for attendance at away games. Tickets for home and away games also will not be allowed to be purchased at the gate but must be pre purchased during the week prior to the event. Tickets can be purchased at the board office up until 3pm the day of the event. Masks will also be required for fans at all times during indoor events (Volleyball, cheer) and will be required at congregate areas or anytime social distancing cannot be accomplished at outdoor events (football, x-country, golf).

After the first two weeks of the season these state guidelines will be reevaluated, and guidelines may change. For more information or questions call the school board office at 304-478-2771 and ask for the Athletic Director Jonathan Hicks.
