St. George’s Amanda Hile completes doctorate degree

ST. GEORGE, W.VA. — St. George Medical Center’s school-based provider Dr. Amanda Hile, DMSc, PA-C is offering even more medical knowledge to staff and patients after completing her doctorate degree in medical science.

With already a master’s degree in medical science and a certified physician’s assistant, Hile earned her doctorate degree from Virginia’s Lynchburg University in December 2019.

“I wanted to better myself and increase my knowledge to better help my patients,” said Hile. “Also by having classes like healthcare law and healthcare administration, I’m able to better understand the workings of St. George as a whole.”
Hile focused her doctorate thesis on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and credits working at St. George Medical Clinic, an integrated clinic that offers behavioral health services, on successfully completing the course.
Though going back to school was difficult at times as Hile has two children, she found the overall experience rewarding for both herself and patients.

“I now have a better understanding of several areas of medicine and healthcare,” said Hile. “I had to take classes in public health and that is very useful in our current situation, and I also took some disaster medical courses.”
Hile enjoys spending time with her patients and learning about their background as well as caring for those in chronic pain.

“Amanda’s journey into furthering her education is a true blessing for the St. George family and the patients that seek out quality care,” said CEO of SGMC Paul Wamsley. “Staff can take note from Amanda and trust that she is giving out medical expertise and the best advice while patients can know they are being treated by a well-experienced and educated healthcare provider.”

In her spare time, Hile enjoys spending time with her husband of 17 years and two children on their farm in St. George. The family enjoys camping, fishing and anything outdoors.
