PARSONS – The Mt. Lions Football team got back onto the football field after three weeks off. Tucker County faced off against Hundred at home on Friday October 16th. Tucker County scored two touchdowns in the first 30 seconds of the game and the Mt. Lions cruised from there as they picked up their first win of the season and they snapped a 17 game losing streak with the 62-6 win over Hundred.
Hundred won the coin toss and deferred their option until the second half. This would give Tucker County the ball to start the game. The Mt. Lions returned the kick to the 50 yard line to give them excellent field position. Then on the first play for the Tucker County offense Trenton Wilfong raced 50 yards for a touchdown on the quarterback keeper. The 2 point conversion was good to make the score 8-0 Mt. Lions with 11:45 left in the first quarter. Hundred then got the ball on offense, but the Tucker County defense stepped up. Tucker County’s Jeremy Liller scooped up the Hornets fumble and ran 30 yards for a touchdown with 11:30 left in the first. The 2 point conversion was good by the Mt. Lions to push the score to 16-0 Tucker County early. On the next Hundred possession the Mt. Lions defense would excel again as Jeremy Liller stepped in front of a pass to collect an interception that would give the ball back to Tucker County at the Hornets 45. The Mt. Lions offense wasted no time as they drove the ball down the field and capped the drive with a 20 yard touchdown run by JJ Knotts. The PAT was good again to increase the score to 24-0 Tucker County with 9:11 left in the first quarter. Another failed Hundred drive gave the Mt. Lions the ball at the Hundred 35 yard line. Then Trenton Wilfong connected on a 11 yard touchdown pass to Maddox Anderson to give Tucker County another first quarter score. The PAT was good on a pass to Ashton Lycliter to make the score 32-0 Mt. Lions with 5:17 left in the first. The Mt. Lions would add one more score before the first quarter ended on a 21 yard touchdown run by Maddox Anderson on a reverse. The PAT failed as Tucker County took a knee on the attempt and the score would be 38-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Hundred then put together a good drive in the second as they drove the ball down inside the Tucker County 10. The Mt. Lions defense then stepped up and stopped the Hornets on a fourth down play at the Tucker County 9 yard line. Then on the first play for the Mt. Lions from their 9 Trenton Wilfong called his own number and raced 91 yards for a rushing touchdown. The PAT failed once again to increase the Tucker County lead to 44-0 with 5:02 left in the second quarter. The second quarter would end with the score the same as Tucker County led at the halftime intermission 44-0.
Tucker County added 2 scores in the third on a Blaike Adams 2 yard touchdown run and a 1 yard Ethan Rosenau touchdown run to make the score 56-0 after three quarters of play. Hundred did get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter on a 35 yard touchdown pass play with 6:53 left in the fourth quarter to change the score to 56-6 Mt. Lions. Tucker County then ended the scoring on the night on a 50 yard touchdown run by Jeremy Liller with 5:52 left in the game. The PAT failed to make the final score 62-6 and give Tucker County the win over Hundred.
Tucker County was led by Trenton Wilfong on offense as he carried the ball 4 times for 174 yards rushing. Wilfong also added 2 of 2 passing for 29 yards and Jeremy Liller added 2 carries for 59 yards rushing, 18 yards receiving for the Mt. Lions. Maddox Anderson chipped in with 21 yards rushing and 11 yards receiving for Tucker County. JJ Knotts had 22 yards rushing for the Mt. Lions and Tucker County outgained the Hornets on offense 392 to 184. The Tucker County defense forced 6 Hundred turnovers.
Tucker County(1-3) will host East Hardy this Friday October 23rd for a game at 7pm. The Mt. Lions were scheduled to host Gilmer County, but because of the Covid color map Gilmer County was not able to travel to Tucker County for the game. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
