Because we can’t go on any trips this year, I will be putting some websites here in our column for those who have a computer. I’m trying to get you in a Christmas mood. These are on YouTube.com “8 Great Things about Christmas at Dollywood” and “Christmas at Dollywood 2020 walkthrough”
It’s that time of year again. Medicare Open Enrollment is from October 15th to December 7th. Now is your chance to review your coverage and compare it to other options. Over the next few weeks, be looking for information from your current plan, Medicare, or Social Security. Be on the lookout for your new “Medicare & You” handbook. Just remember that plans are not allowed to call or come to your home without an invitation from you.
Call NOW to make an appointment with the SHIP Counselors. You need to call 304-636-4747. Due to the Covid pandemic, they are trying to handle the appointments primarily over the phone. They have been doing this for several months and it is working well. THE SCHEDULE FILLS UP QUICKLY SO CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT NOW. They are already booked some in November! Last year they ran out of appointments before the end of Open Enrollment!
The Tucker County Senior Centers will be closed on Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th for Thanksgiving. They will open at their regular time on Monday, November 30th. In spite of these trying times we have a lot to be thankful for. Please be safe during the holiday.
Yesterday, December 1st, was “Giving Tuesday.” This day was created to encourage people to do good. There are many different ways you can give. Making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help. Every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give. You can give of your time volunteering by sharing your skills and talents to help others. This can also help you find new friends and reduce stress. Of course you can give dollars. Throughout our communities, nonprofit organizations work tirelessly every day to make a difference in our communities. You can also give kindness. A seemingly small act of kindness has the power to inspire generosity. Buy someone’s lunch, text someone to tell them you’re grateful to know them, or compliment a stranger. You could call one of our local seniors, especially our shut-ins. These small acts of kindness matter more than you will ever know and you will be blessed also.
