ELKINS, W.Va.,– Forest Service officials would like to remind the public that all-terrain vehicles are prohibited on National Forest System roads and trails within Monongahela National Forest.
“National Forest lands are governed by federal regulations as well as management requirements outlined in the Monongahela National Forest Management Plan,” said Forest Supervisor Shawn Cochran. “Monongahela National Forest does not have any trails, roads or areas designated for off-highway motorized vehicle use.”
The public can view and download the specific closure orders related to motor vehicle use on the National Forest at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mnf/notices/?cid=FSEPRD860625 and https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mnf/notices/?cid=FSEPRD860626.
A few highlights include:
- Motor vehicle use is prohibited on all Monongahela National Forest trails and for cross-country travel (not on roads or trails).
- The following vehicles are also prohibited on all Monongahela National Forest system roads:
o Any unregistered or unlicensed all-terrain vehicles, utility-terrain vehicles, go-carts, golf carts, dirt bikes or any other unregistered or unlicensed motor vehicle.
o Any registered or licensed all-terrain vehicles, utility-terrain vehicles, go-carts, golf carts, dirt bikes, street-legal special purpose vehicles or any other motor vehicle that is not licensed or certified under State law for general operation on all public roads within the State.
