As we all know, Valentine’s Day in this Sunday. Do you realize that Americans buy more than 60 million pounds of candy annually in celebration of this holiday?
Americans enjoy chocolate in everything from desserts and drinks to breakfast cereals. It originated in Central America more than 4000 years ago. South American ancient civilizations used chocolate drinks in religious ceremonies and traded the beans for currency.
All chocolate is not created equally, nor does it all taste the same. Dark chocolate has a higher percentage of cocoa beans to create a taste that is dryer and has a more bitter taste. Milk chocolate is made with cocoa solids mixed with powdered, liquid, or condensed milk. White chocolate is not actually chocolate because it contains no solids of the cocoa bean. Instead, it is made from cocoa butter which is a pale, edible vegetable fat extracted from cocoa beans. Milk, sugar, and vanilla are added to sweeten the taste of white chocolate.
